In future updates to the site, we’ll cover what makes each beach different and go over the culture of each beach. For example, Ipanema beach is widely credited with inventing the bikini. That’s a little known fact, but if you shop around for bikini’s and other swimwear for women, you’ll find the term “Brazilian Bikini” used quite frequently.
This world class beach offers a unique setting in the chic and upscale area of Rio de Janeiro. For beach aficionados who enjoy the water, beach soccer, volleyball, and other athletic activities, this beach is for you. There are also many bars and dining establishments surrouning Ipanema Beach.
With soccer (called futsal in Brazil) being so popular, it’s not uncommon to find many people playing this global sport on the fine beaches of Brazil. Each beach has different groups of people who gather routinely to play games. In fact, the Brazilian culture is so in tune with this culture, even on a global scale, that in the Brazilian part of Miami Beach, there is a regular foot volley game. The locals, who hail from Brazil, can be seen playing this sport in the exact same location each and every Saturday. They bring their own equipment from home and set up shop, rotating in and out as a team wins or loses a point. It’s really quite neat to see people come together in a fashion like this from so far away, but it’s a known fact that they do this with frequency in Miami Beach. Many locals gather around and admire their skills as they play volleyball with their feet, heads, knees, and chests. It’s quite the showing of skill!
Foot volley is played two versus two, in a volleyball court with regulation nets. The games rules are identical to volleyball, other than the players do not use their hands in any manner.
